5 Content Ideas for December
The year is coming to an end and marketers are ramping up their efforts for a final push. If you are looking for a blog topic, social post idea, or other featured content for the remaining weeks, take a look at these 5 ideas for the month of December.
1. The holiday season
Obviously, the holiday shopping season is a huge opportunity for creating content. Create one or more shopping guides of your products, promote any sales or discounts, and offer customers the ability to make a wish list on your site. Make DIY videos or articles that demonstrate how to use your product at home or as part of a project. Offer holiday preparation tips like when to order to ensure shipment, how to survive the office holiday party, or recipes to bring to a holiday gathering. This is also a great time to boost user engagement. Encourage your customers to share their wish lists, vote on their favorite holiday gift, or share a photo.
2. Winter Solstice
Wednesday, December 21 is the winter solstice, aka the shortest day and longest night of the year. This day marks the official start of the winter season. It’s time to get ready for snow, hot chocolate, and snuggly blankets. This is the perfect time to clear out any remaining fall or early winter merchandise and highlight your seasonal products and holiday gifts.
3. Giving Back
December is a great time of year to highlight the ways your company gives back to the community. This can be in the form of donations, volunteering, advocacy, or other charitable contributions. Coordinate an afternoon or full day for all of your employees to volunteer for a local organization. Encourage customers to give back as well. Offer an option on your checkout page to donate to a cause or provide a directory of organizations looking for volunteers or gifts.
4. New Year
There are many options when it comes to creating content related to the new year. Most retailers can find a way to incorporate new year’s resolutions into their marketing plan. In addition to the diet and exercise industry, apparel, outdoor equipment, home improvement, and tech sellers can encourage customers to “resolve” to use their products to better their lives. Another idea is to reflect back on trends from the past year and/or look forward to what is to come in the new year. This could take the form of an end-of-year evaluation of your most popular products, or a sneak preview of products being released in the coming months.
